The other day, I had “SARDINES!! HEY & PORK n BEANS!!” as my bbm status and I got 11 pings asking me, “ARE YOU EATING THAT?”. LOL, and I had to explain no, I’m singing a song . . . pause . . . “WHAT KINDA SONG IS THAT?”

Then I realized everyone pinging me where between Europe & Jamaica, and honestly had no idea what that hook belongs too. Actually it’s plenty people in the US who doesn’t know. It’s a GOGO song. Yup a good ‘ol DC GO GO anthem.

Go Go is basically a regional (DC, Northern VA and Maryland) subgenre of funk music. It combines funk, RnB, early Hip Hop, and a lot of percussion (snares, bass drum, congas) with call and response vocals.

GOGO is NOT HOUSE Music. There is a hugeeeeeeeeee difference. House is electronic using synthesized instruments, GoGo on the other hand started with live bands such as Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers.
