“Real music lives forever.” Chronixx
Fresh from his performance at I-Wayne’s album release (which received a nod in the STAR paper), the rising young artist known as Chronixx, is not just making splashes but waves in the waters of Reggae. Within the past couple of months he’s been on FameFm (95.5) and BessFm (100.5), had his single premiered by popular ZJ Sparks (“Behind Curtain“), interviewed on Teen Seen, and featured in many local events such as Wickie Wackie, Plug n Play, reggae artist Protoje’s “Music on the Hills” and much more.
HDP had the recent opportunity to speak with Jamar McNaughton aka Chronixx . . .
(HDP) As a young artist (only 18) many of your counterparts are choosing a more flashy, hype route, filled with dancing and gun tunes, how did you choose your musical path?
(Chronixx) A gun, party, “hype” song plays only for 3months . . . real music lives forever. My musical path is a legacy that InI couldnt just overlook . . . Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, Joseph Hill, Beres . . . fight long and hard to cut a path out for Chronixx and made it clear that the world needs this kind of musical energy now…so it was natural and inevitable that I trod the path of the greats…
(HDP) Are you hitting any setbacks taking a more grounded path in this music world?
(Chronixx) First of all, my set backs are the energies that propel me forward so im most grateful for them. Yes I face set backs every day! One of them being the under appreciation of quality music – the demonic concept of “image over talent” but Chronixx is not just a youth who do art…i do heart! So it takes a lot more than a set back to set me back…lol

(HDP) What keeps you focused?
(Chronixx) The joy my people get whenever they hear a well composed message…the smiles…the tears and the sacrifices that people (some of them being people I have never met personally) make in the name of my career. It is as if I have a million managers lol I cant let them down…that keeps me focused

(HDP) What is that “Chronixx” sound and your creative process.
(Chronixx) My sound is a symphony of all of your favorate artistes in one package. It is Stevie Wonder with a Bob Marley swag, it is Dennis Brown with a Buju Banton flow…it is a complex chemistry that is working better than I expected.
(HDP) With that chemistry going on how is your creative process?
(Chronixx) My creative proccess now…sigh…
(HDP) Lol, ok then, in regards to creativity what is your favorite song you’ve recorded so far?

(HDP) Who would you like to work with?
(Chronixx) Of course from the reggae world, greats such as Burning Spear, Beres Hammod . . . newer artist like Romaine Virgo. Chris Martin from Coldplay and John Legend.
(HDP) Adding an artist like Chris Martin from Coldplay is interesting for an 18yr old out of Spanishtown (Jamaica) . . . describe yourself in 5 words then . . .

(HDP) Now I understand that you are more than just a musical artist, what other talents do you have?
(Chronixx) I can wash lol! No, I do a little painting and sculpting…graphic designing.. I design some of what I wear too…and Im decent chef.. I can safely say that
(HDP) As we end, what words of advice do you have to teens, ready to follow a music career?
(Chronixx) Discover your self…make that your first task! Find the right people to work with and take advantage of all your resources (“links”) . . . then put your heart in it!
