Ice T – Disses Rick Ross & More

Real talk, what can you expect from the man who without qualms released the song “COP KILLER“. Ice T has never been one to speak quietly.

In a recent interview with VH 1 (for the documentary PLANET ROCK, which explores the connection between crack & the rap game), the rapper calls out Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and remarks that rappers are no longer held accountable for their words.

Regarding Rick Ross, Ice T voices, “Rick Ross stole a nigga’s name. I call him ‘Identity Crisis.’ He thinks he’s [Freeway] Rick Ross, he thinks he’s Larry Hoover, he thinks he’s Big Meech, he thinks he’s MC Hammer, he thinks he’s Tupac. Like, who the fuck are you really, dude?” adding that, “When we rapped about dope— me, Snoop and everybody—it was like we doin’ it because we GOT to. Now these nigga’s is actin’ like it’s somethin’ that’s FUN. It’s so easy to fantasize about it. To actively do it? That’s a whole ‘nother fuckin’ thing.”

Ice T also expresses disgust of POP music inside of HIP HOP, he states, “. . . when you have Rihanna singin’ on your records and you’re doin’ records with Katy Perry, that’s no longer rap. It’s pop music, pop using rap delivery. ” On the pop note, he even takes a shot a Lil Wayne, ““When you hear Lil Wayne sayin’ ‘I got a chopper in the car,’ you go, ‘Yeah, right you do.”

While the PLANET ROCK documentary is NOT focused pop or new rappers, it does explore the world of HIP HOP as I know (@Ms_HDP). I look forward to seeing it, (September 18th on VH 1) but Ice T does raise a good argument. Back in the day, if a rapper said I SHOT SOMEBODY, he was held accountable for it, people took the time to dig it up and find out if it was true. Remember all the court cases about RAP LYRICS influenced my child to do this or that . . . what’s happening now?

IS THE RAP GAME JUST A TREND NOW?
